Often times when producing polymer or plastic material moisture will become trapped in the material's polymer structure
and as most polymer and plastics molders will tell you, moisture in a raw material can cause all sorts of problems during processing.
Some polymer testing labs use the Karl Fischer Method, also referred to as ASTM D6869, for determining the moisture content in polymer and plastic materials.
Reasons why clients have asked a polymer testing lab to examine their raw polymer and plastic materials include:
- Appearance of Surface Imperfections Such as Splay or Bubbling on Finished Parts
- Suspected Polymer Degradation as a Result of Hydrolysis
- Suspicion of Excessive Polymerization Because of too Low a Moisture Content
