"Adhesive Has Difficulty Adhering to Etched Tubing"
Recently, a customer presented a polymer testing lab with a plastic project
involving attaching items to an etched fluoropolymer with an
adhesive. The customer suspected a problem with the way in
which the fluoropolymer had been etched.
The polymer testing lab examined the etched fluoropolymer surface using
FT-IR Analysis and discovered
that some pieces had an oil-like residue on them. Contact
Angle Analysis revealed higher contact angles on those same pieces.
Using the data provided by the polymer testing lab the customer developed
better handling procedures for its materials.
